Profile
In her own words: "I was always an artist, and my favorite thing since I can remember is selling my art. I grew up in an artistic home. My mother was a ceramicist and my father an art teacher. My sister and I were always encouraged to draw and create. At the age of 9, I was in my first art show, first craft fair at 11 and sold stuffed animals I made in stores at 13 and ceramic “fat Ladies” at the Wagner Gallery in San Francisco at 14. I have studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts (where my father was a teacher), School of Visual Arts, NYC., Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and Minneapolis College of Art."Rebeccas' art explores the themes of domesticity: pets, home, love, food and clothes in painting and mosaics. When studying in Minneapolis her paintings became "fractured" her teacher at the time suggested she "go with it" and it led to mosaics. Rebeccas mosaics are different than most as she makes and cuts all of her own tiles except in Picassiette when using found objects. The effect is a sensuality and gesture not found in most mosaics. Her husband of 12 years, Dennis helps her in her business. She has said many times how she could not do what she does today if it weren't for him. Mimi Sachet Rebecca DeVeres' art work is currently found in these galleries:
