Rebecca DeVere has been an artist from her earliest beginnings of selling at her first art show at the age of 9, first collection of stuffed animals sold in stores at the age of 13, and her ceramic 'fat ladies' at the Wagner Gallery at the age of 14. Growing up in an artistic household with a mother who was a ceramicist and a father who was an art teacher both her and her sister were always encouraged to create. At the age of 18 she began her formal artistic training from California College of the Arts and Crafts to New York's School of Visual Arts, Nova Scotia College of Art and Design and Minneapolis College of Art. When studying in Minneapolis her paintings became "fractured" and her teacher at the time suggested she "go with it" which led to her passion for mosaics. Rebecca's mosaics are different than most as she makes and cuts all of her own tiles except in Picassiette when using found objects to create themes both profound as well as charming in their uniqueness. She has run a successful mosaic "Garden Art" business with her husband Dennis for 8 years in addition to her one of a kind pieces and is flocked by her two adoring assistants Rocky and Winnie, her loving dog muses.

Rebecca's mosaics stemmed from her fine art background in painting as her work became more and more "fractured" this led to her creating "mosaic paintings". Using a combination of techniques, including an invented process of gluing with liquid plastic her collages behind glass thus making her own tiles and carving high density construction foam and layering it with Milestone concrete to build her mosaic shrines and animals.

While Rebecca's formal training in painting began in New York City at the age of 18 she recently was inspired anew when helping her mother move as she acquired all of her old drawings done as a child. The context of these old drawings has inspired Rebecca to paint images from her childhood, and explore concepts of ideal happiness in life, domesticity and love. Being born on Valentines Day also fuels these explorations.
